The Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress A Bit O'Lace belonged to the 709th Bomb Squadron, 447th Bomb Group, 8th Army Air Force during World War II. They were stationed at RAF Rattlesden in England. The bomber completed 83 missions and successfully made it home only to be scrapped after the war in Kingman Arizona, like so many other Flying Forts.
The plane was given its name by cartoonist Milt Caniff in repsonse to a request to use one of his strip characters, "Miss Lace" as the plane's nose art. Caniff responded with a sketch entitled, "A Bit O'Lace" which was subsequently painted on the aircraft.
The Postage Stamp B-17G is a diecast metal model complete with stand. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
