The Supermarine Spitfire was flown by the RAF and many other Allied countries during WWII. It's distinctive eliptical wing was both beautiful and effecient making the Spitfire one of the fastest and manuverable fighters of the Battle of Britain in 1940. Later versions with more powerful engines kept the Spitfire competitive throughout the war.
This diecast metal model represents Spitfire Mk,IIa number P7973 which saw service with 452 Sqn RAAF in 1941. This aircraft survives and is displayed in the Australian War Memorial, still bearing its original wartime paint scheme.
