The 477th FG was reactivated in October 2007 in Alaska as the only Air Force Reserve unit there. This became the Air Force Reserve Command’s first F-22 Raptor unit. In 2011 work was under way to have one of the F-22s painted with “Spirit of Tuskegee” on the tail to honor the Tuskegee Air Men 332nd FG “Red Tails” and the 477th BG who flew 1,578 missions and 15,533 sorties, destroyed 261 enemy aircraft, and won more than 850 medals. In 2013 07-4147 became the flagship and was shown with the scheme.

The Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum, and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft.
