The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter used operationally by the United States Army Air Forces. It featured a conventional all-metal airframe, with a straight wing and tricycle landing gear. It was the first operational jet aircraft to have its engine in the fuselage. It saw extensive combat action in the Korean War.
