The A-10 Thunderbolt II more commonly known as the "Warthog" was designed for short term response against enemy armored vehicles. The primary weapon for that mission is a 30mm Gatling gun, one of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown. It fires depleted uranium armor-piercing rounds.
The unit represented by this 1/140 scale A-10 diecast metal model is the 163rd Fighter Squadron, "Blacksnakes," a unit in the Indiana Air National Guard, 122nd Fighter Wing in Fort Wayne Indiana. They have been operating A-10s since 2010.
