Product Description

Details

In the early American sport of boxing, tossing one's hat into the ring symbolized one's intention to become a challenger. As the first American squadron to enter combat in World War I, the 94th Aero Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group, chose Uncle Sam's top hat, encircled with a ring to symbolize their intention to enter the fight. The Hat in the Ring insignia was displayed on both sides of each fighter plane in the 94th. The emblem is perhaps most associated with Eddie Rickenbacker (photo inserted) who would become America's "Ace of Aces" in World War I with 26 victories. The pin measures approximately 1.25" by .75".
