Bud Anderson's love of flying began in the 1920's watching planes fly over his father's farm. In 1942 he entered the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program. After receiving his wings he flew P-39 Airacobra's before being assigned to the newly formed 357th Fighter Group and heading to England and the 8th Air Force. He entered combat in February 1944 flying two combat tours in less than a year; a total of 116 missions all in P-51's bearing the name, "Old Crow."
Following WWII he flew as an Air Force test pilot before being assigned to command an F-86 squadron in post war Korea. At the age of 48 he was in combat again over Vietnam in a Republic F-105, also named "Old Crow."
"To Fly and Fight" is about flying, plain and simple: the joys and dangers and the very special skills it demands. Touching, thoughtful, and dead honest, it is the story of a boy who grew up living his dream.
